This country city has had a growth spurt in the past few decades, but it still offers a nice getaway from the bigger cities. It is conveniently located near a large go kart facility, Bernheim Forest and plenty of restaurants.

For those that prefer a more rustic camping with really cost efficient boat rentals readily available too, you can’t go wrong with Taylorsville Lake. You have abundant fishing, plentiful wildlife, and can basically pitch a tent under the stars and just enjoy life. You can pay for a camping space or pitch a tent in nature for free.

You will be staying at a historic plantation, in a plush room filled with antiques, and be treated to a home cooked southern breakfast the next morning. On the same property, you get to experience a winery and the fruits of their labors. This is a perfect romantic getaway spot.

People have been known to sleep atop the Natural Bridge, though I personally would fear rolling off. The scenic nature views campers are blessed with in this area are breathtaking. With more than 2,200 acres to get in touch with nature, you cannot beat camping in this section of Daniel Boone Forest. A tent under the stars is free and offers an amazing view from wherever you choose.

This is a perfect spot to stay in the historic part of Bardstown. Yes, it is a jail built in 1819, but the rooms are comfortable, have private baths and televisions. Only one room still resembles an old cell, and that is for visitors that want that feel. The next morning you're treated to a full southern breakfast and a tour of the jail. You are also less than two miles from My Old Kentucky Home Dinner Train and the Bourbon Heritage Center. Rooms start at $100 a night.

You can rent a one-bedroom cabin for as little as $80 a night, or invest in a tree house style stay at the Sylvan Float Tree house for $121 a night. For those that like to rough it more, there are places like Big Leaf that are more like screened huts with a full size sleeping frame, but it is a good idea to have a sleeping mat when at this one. (It also has no heat, air or electricity.) There are many other cabins available offering various levels of comfort and pricing. However, on thing to keep in mind is, there are no unpleasant stays at Red River Gorgeous.

Cabin rentals start at around $99 for comfortable lodging with all the conveniences of home, but a better view. They also offer boat rentals so you can go out on the lake and enjoy all aspects of the marina and surrounding nature.

The stays start at around $75 and for that you get a beautiful room filled with antiques in a villa surrounded by nature. Some rooms have access to the viranda and two rooms share a bath, so be specific when you choose your stay. There is an outdoor hot tub that guests can use to relax and a pool to cool off in. An orchid greenhouse is also accessible and guests are treated to a freshly prepared, cooked to order breakfast.
